Dr. Denis Humphreys
Dr. Denis Humphreys is a Sparks native who received his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Medicine from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1970. He attained his doctorate of Optometry in 1974. Since his graduation in 1974, Dr. Humphreys has been in private practice in Sparks, Nevada. Dr. Humphreys provides comprehensive optometric care with and emphasis in medical eyecare and laser vision correction management. He has worked on the Sparks Planning Commission, and is currently the chairperson of the Washoe County Board of Health. He is active as a member in the Sports Vision Section of the AOA. Dr. Humphreys and his wife Rocky, enjoy all outdoor sports including skiing, golf, biking, hiking and exploring Nevada and Lake Tahoe.
Dr. Evan Marchant
Dr. Marchant is a native of Bountiful, Utah. He graduated with honors from the University of California-Berkeley School of Optometry in 1991, having previously received an undergraduate degree in business management from Brigham Young University. Dr. Marchant provides routine optometric care with an emphasis in contact lenses and specialty contact lens fitting. He also has a keen interest in color vision and provides color vision evaluations and counseling regarding color vision deficiencies. His professional affiliations include the Nevada Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Contact Lens Section of the AOA. He and his wife, Julie, have eight children and nine grandchildren and they enjoy many activities together. Dr. Marchant enjoys the outdoors and building things.
Dr. Troy Humphreys
Dr. Troy Humphreys, the son of Dr. Denis Humphreys and husband to Dr. Becky Humphreys, received his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrative Biology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1996. He received his doctorate of Optometry with honors from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2000. Dr. Humphreys received his fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) in 2005. Dr. Humphreys was the Nevada Optometric Association Doctor of Optometry of the Year in 2016, and is president-elect of the Nevada Optometric Association. Dr. Humphreys has interests in general medical eyecare, dry eye treatments, refractive surgery management including LASIK, PRK, and Implantable Collamer Lenses (ICLs), and spent internships at Bassett Community Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska and the Pacific Cataract & Laser Institute in Bellevue, Washington. Dr. Humphreys enjoys the outdoors and is an avid skier, hiker, and mountain biker and enjoys sharing these passions with his wife and two young children. He is a licensed private pilot and loves to explore the skies above the Western US. He further enjoys traveling to provide eyecare to the less privileged. He has served thousands of patients in Costa Rica, Honduras, and Mexico during the past 10 years, and will continue to do so.
Dr. Becky Humphreys
Dr. Becky Humphreys (married to Dr. Troy Humphreys) is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska. She graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1999, where she concurrently completed a Master of Education, Visual Function in Learning degree. In 1999, Dr. Humphreys was an in-house resident at the SUNY College of Optometry in Manhattan, NY, where she studied pediatrics, vision therapy, and vision rehabilitation after traumatic brain injury. Dr. Humphreys’ emphasis at Family Eyecare is pediatric and family vision. She also oversees the Vision Therapy clinic for Family Eyecare Associates. Educating children, teachers, and school nurses on vision and how to spot vision problems is one of her favorite activities to do, as an eye doctor! When she is not in the office, she plays mom to her two young children. The children patients of Family Eyecare Associates adore “Dr. Becky”, and there is good reason why they do!
Dr. Cori Cooper
Dr. Cooper is a native of Sparks, Nevada. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Nevada, Reno and received her Doctorate of Optometry with honors from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2006. Dr. Cooper has vast vision and eye health care experience, including training rotations at eye care surgical/medicals centers in the western United States. An active member of the American Optometric Association, Nevada Optometric Association, and the Optometric Nutritional Society, she strives to provide quality care to all members of the local community. She also has a passion for serving underprivileged communities internationally through associations with Shared Vision International, The Lion's Club, and Los Medicos Voladores (The Flying Doctors). Dr. Cooper shares her love of theater, the beach, and family with her husband John and their amazing children.
Dr. Umari Duffus
Dr. Umari Duffus is a native of Los Angeles, CA, born to a Jamaican father and Belizean mother. He completed his Bachelor degree in Biology at Cal State Northridge where he was also a collegiate track and field athlete. He then earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, CA. Dr. D enjoys seeing a variety of patients from pediatrics to geriatrics to multifocal contact lenses but has a keen interest in disease processes in the eye such as hypertensive and diabetic retinopathy. He was able to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to manage these conditions during his education at multiple Indian Health Service sites such as the Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital in Sacaton, AZ and the renowned Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills. When he is not taking care of patients, Dr. D enjoys spending time with his wife, Summer, who is also an optometrist, and their toy poodle, Newton. He and his wife also enjoy wine tasting, hiking, and traveling to tropical locations. Dr. Duffus looks forward to serving your vision and eye care needs.
Dr. Katie Braganza
Dr. Katrina Braganza is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada. She received her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Nevada, Reno. She then earned her Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from the Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry in Pomona, CA. Dr. Braganza provides comprehensive optometric care with experience in the treatment and management of ocular disease as well as refractive and cataract surgery co-management through her rotations in medical eye clinics including the Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital in Sacaton, AZ. When she is away from the office, Dr. Braganza loves spending time with her family and friends, singing, playing guitar and ukulele, playing tennis, and going to the lake. She is excited to greet you with a big smile and to take care of your eye care needs.
At Family Eyecare Associates, our courteous, efficient front office staff, most of which are Certified Paraoptometrics, are here to schedule a variety of appointments, including a comprehensive vision and eye health evaluation, a contact lens evaluation, and an emergency eye check. If you have any questions about your vision or medical insurance, they are trained to assist you in determining correct coverage.
All our knowledgeable clinic staff members are Certified Paraoptometrics, tested by the American Optometric Association. They are able to gather valuable information for our doctors using the latest technological instruments for pre-evaluation. Some of these instruments include the I-Profiler, the Optos Retinal Imaging system and the OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) instrument. These allow your doctor and our staff to provide you with the best care, as well as the best vision possible.
Our doctors have many affiliations, including the American Optometric Association, the Nevada Optometric Association, the Primary Eyecare Network (Dr. Troy Humphreys currently an advisory Board Member), the Washoe County Health Department (Dr. Denis Humphreys Past Chairman of the Board), the American Academy of Optometry (Dr. Troy Humphreys and Dr. Becky Humphreys both fellowship trained in the academy), the Flying Doctors (Dr. Cori Cooper and Dr. Troy Humphreys have made several volunteer Eyecare missions as Eyecare providers of the team), Lions in Sight (Dr. Cooper, Dr. Troy and Becky Humphreys have made several trips with Lions in sight providing volunteer Eyecare to underprivileged around the world). Dr. Cooper is also part of the Ocular Nutrition Society.
